Travelling with Medicine

Based on the Hungarian regulation, when a person under medical treatment with a controlled substance enters the territory of Hungary, a valid documentation must be presented according to the followings.

  • If the quantity of the narcotic drug does not exceed the quantity required for 3 day sof treatment, an international certificate issued by the patient’s GP is enough.
  • The quantity of narcotic drug required for 3 to maximum 90 days of treatment can only be carried into Hungary in possession of an official certificate issued by the competent authority in the country of origin.
  • In case of psychotropic substances required for 30 to maximum 90 days of treatment can only be carried into Hungary in possession of an official certificate issued by the competent authority in the country of origin as well. If the quantity of the psychotropic substance does not exceed the quantity required for 30 days of treatment, an international certificate issued by the patient’s GP is enough.

 

The abovementioned certificates must be presented during the customs and police check; however, the submission of these documents to our Department is not required.

The Department of Narcotic Drugs Control only deals with the attestation of certificates - under the provisions of 43/2005 (X.15.) Decree of the Minister of Health - issued by the patient’s GP in case of travelers originated from HungaryApplicants shall possess a certificate filled out by their GP and certified by our Department - depending on the duration of the journey.

Travelling with medicines that are not Controlled Drugs

When a person under medical treatment with a medicine that does not classified as controlled substance enters the territory of Hungary, no special permit or certificate is required.
